It has been a couple of years working in China. I have truly enjoyed my time living in this beautiful country. There have been numerous this and that type of issues during my whole China stay. However, something that always touched me was the personal achievements of my Chinese boss.
Let me share my observations about some of the best qualities of my LORD (in 50s)!
#1 A Truly Humble Person
This is probably the most important quality I admire about my boss. He is very polite, down to earth and overall a nice person. He doesn’t have bragging habits. He is a good listener and possess a high level of critical thinking.
In particular, I’m a foreigner and it was a very difficult time for me in the beginning to settle down in China (I didn’t know any Mandarin Chinese). However, he supported me throughout my stay in China. He cares about me, and even now, he supports me with whatsoever concern I may have, personal or professional!
From time to time, he’d organize group dinners, and we’d all enjoy Chinese food on a round table. In fact, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when we were not allowed to go work, he’d regularly hold group meetings via video conferencing and get to know each and every team member’s health condition.
#2 A Successful Person
Looking at his life, from a common man’s point of view, he is essentially a successful person. For example, his salary is about RMB 500,000/year. This is actually a very inspiring salary in China. He lives with family and has two lovely kids. He also bought his own house, and drives a personal car to/from work every day. Quite wealthy!

#3 My Chinese Boss Is Knowledgeable
He knows our team’s work in minute details. That’s why he is the boss, right?
Well, I have worked in other countries, organizations, and with different types of managements. However, my current supervisor truly stands out! His opinions about conducting work professionally have been very helpful for us to perform well.
#4 Sharp Memory
He is great at remembering things. Man! For example, sometimes, he’d share his college life with us. Often, he’d mention what we discussed when I was new to working in China. I remember once meeting him at a local supermarket in 2017, and he still remembers our brief chat on that day. It’s usually refreshing to talk to him.
#5 He Loves Travelling
He has been to so many countries! He is always energetic. I am surprised with his level of energy (for his age). Often, he used to have back to back international trips (before the COVID-19 outbreak). Once in China, he’d report to work as soon as possible. He never looks tired! Actually, he is in good health (doesn’t smoke). He is okay with social drinking, though.
Frankly, I feel honored to have worked with him. My working in China experience has been unforgettable because of his personal support.
I wish my Chinese boss a long and wonderful life!
It’s worth mentioning that I don’t necessarily mean that there are no shortcomings in his personality. He does have his own issues, but most of the time, those are his personal issues. I may write one post about those issues as well. 🙂
