What does it mean when a Chinese girl texts you, saying, “I am a celibate”?
Well, very recently, this is exactly what happened to me in China.
A quick report!
The Amazing Girl
So, a few weeks ago, I met this Chinese girl on a lakeside. She was damn hot, nicely dressed, and perfect in shape. Even in my deep sleep, I would rate 10/10. In fact, it’s very common to see such girls in China (+ Asian countries).
When I texted her, she responded quite fast. She turned out to be single. However, when I suggested a date, she apparently refused the meet up. She gave me the reason that she was a celibate.
What Does “Celibate” Means?
Well, the Google Dictionary defines “celibate” as:
- An adjective: “abstaining from marriage and sexual relations, typically for religious reasons.” Example phrase: “a celibate priest“
- A noun: “a person who abstains from marriage and sexual relations”. Example: “he’s attracted and attractive to women and yet he lives as a celibate“
I was aware of such meanings of “celibate” in the context of Christian religion.
I was aware of such meanings of “celibate” in the context of Christian religion. However, I was not sure what did this girl meant by “celibate” (China doesn’t have religious dramas). So, I asked this girl what exactly meant by being a “celibate”. However, she never replied to me again.
The Next Girl
I was still trying to figure out the meaning of “celibate”, and then I met another girl, from Chongqing.
Quite hot, but not as much as the first girl.
She also texted me the same thing “I am a celibate”. By this time, I had realized that these girls might be using some translation software.
I asked her to text me in Chinese so that I could analysis the text by myself. (I don’t like giving up that fast. Moreover, I love to understand how the women think, particularly about the dating and relationship. 🙂 )
This is what she replied to me:
The keyword in this text is: 独身主义 (Dúshēn zhǔyì). My dictionary says it means “celibate”.
My Colleague Had An Answer
Still not satisfied with the findings, I finally asked my native Chinese colleague.
He looked into my eyes, smiled, and said, “Did a girl just reject you. Don’t worry. You can meet more girls”.
I didn’t tell him the complete story (didn’t want him to call me a loser). 😀
If you are into Asian girls, just sign up China Love Cupid (I wrote an article: How To Find A Chinese Girlfriend Online?).
My colleague mentioned that when a person (boy or girl) says he/she is celibate, it generally implies that he/she prefers to stay single for the time being, probably for the next few years. Further, this word (独身主义) is not really related to Christianity. In fact, it’s likely that a “celibate” will get into a relationship at a later stage. However, it’s highly likely that he/she is not interested in dating for the time being. 🙂
Sure enough, I lost two cute girls in a quick succession. 🙂
